How is careerXact different from job boards and recruiters?

These resume and skills-centric systems were built for employers, not job seekers. When you enter a resume- or skills-based system, there is no opportunity to be proactive with the people you want to meet, or prove your creativity or ‘soft skills.’ At a resume bank, you ARE your resume. Some recruiting and resume-bank sites offer an "interest profile” tool, but this does not perform the same function as our program.

We are unique because we specialize in getting your career off on the right foot. We help to empower you in your job search so that you do not miss your greatest opportunities. We are a tool that helps you to better understand yourself and become more effective at knowing and proving that you are the ‘right one’ for the job.

We can enter your job-search process much earlier than a resume bank or recruiter (Internet-based or otherwise). We help you privately take the first steps toward discovering your most suitable career direction.

How does careerXact work with other job banks, like Monster.com?

If you match an Industry Benchmark, you can apply through a job board or company career page.

  1. First determine that the job matches the Industry Benchmark.
  2. Then you send your careerXact Job ApplicationTM to the email address(es) outlined on the job board or company career page.
If you are required to paste your entire job application onto the site instead of emailing it to them, you can send your careerXact Job ApplicationTM to yourself, then copy it onto their application page.

How does careerXact work with employers who are not careerXact members?

If you match an Industry Benchmark (you do not match a Participating Employer), simply use our Job Match Application feature to apply to the companies of your choice who you think fit that Industry Benchmark:

1. Determine what companies and roles match the Industry Benchmark.

2. Send your careerXact Job ApplicationTM to each company by entering their email addresses in the space provided during the application process. You will usually find companies' email addresses on their career page. Make a note of the address then come back and apply through careerXact .

If you need to paste your resume on a company's site, you can send your completed careerXact applications to yourself, then copy it onto the site.

The validation methodology utilized in developing the careerXact Assessment assures the program is bias-free and meets EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunities Commission) guidelines, the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other human- and civil-rights legislation in the United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The careerXact assessment is a scientifically-designed ‘high-level’ normative career assessment.

careerXact's personal profiling component was designed by a team of leading specialists in the fields of psychology and psychometrics. It was developed over a period of almost five years and is based on a sample of over 5,000 working people in the United States of America, Canada, Great Britain, and Southeast Asia. This profiling component is one of a very few psychometrically validated, business-oriented human resources assessment instruments introduced in the last twenty years.

It is one of the largest studies undertaken to support business-oriented multicultural assessments utilizing a normative sample of men and women employed in a variety of occupations. The people in the validation sample were employed in companies of all sizes -- small, medium and large, including government.

What are the alternatives to using careerXact?

No other tool or program is able to connect you to a cross-section of specific corporations based on your job fit.

Professional career counseling can cost hundreds of dollars. And when you are done, you still have to get connected with a suitable job.

Companies traditionally look first for experience – they put hundreds of resumes on the chopping block – evaluating your worthiness with a single document. careerXact helps you focus on applying to the jobs where you are most likely to find success. We also help you gain priority access to those jobs.

You’ve met many people who have written a ‘one-size-fits-all’ resume because they think that by applying to more places, they have a better chance of getting a job. But all this does is send a whole slew of mediocre, non-specific resumes to all the most important companies. This method wastes time, effort and energy.

Can I rewrite the assessment?

The reliability of this assessment is such that you will not need to repeat the questionnaire more than once every year or two (research shows your assessment does not change much over time). So to help limit abuse and maintain validity, members will be unable to repeat the questionnaire within 30 days.

How long are my results stored for?

Your results are stored indefinitely.

We store unfinished questionnaires for 7 days. If you need to take a break or stop, you can save your questions and pick up where you left off.

What is the volume of jobs in the database?

The number of jobs is continually increasing as more and more companies subscribe to careerXact . We are trying to provide a cross-section of jobs from many different industries and prominent companies. At this time, however, it is impossible for us to cover every type of job in every industry. You will find that as you revisit our site, the number of corporate partners increase. So keep in touch as we grow!

And remember, you can also use careerXact to apply to companies who are not yet part of the program using the Industry Benchmarks.

careerXact helps you discover certain qualities you possess that employers are looking for. When you understand your own job suitability, you are far more likely to create a persuasive resume and have an effective interview.

What does a careerXact Job ApplicationTM look like?

The careerXact Job ApplicationTM has three parts:
  1. careerXact Letter of Introduction – This letter identifies you to employers as a pre-screened careerXact applicant and highlights your relevant competencies. This letter is generated by careerXact.
  2. Resume – You paste your own resume into a text box so that it can be sent to employers as a part of your overall Job Application. (See “Resume” Tips for additional information.)
  3. Cover Letter – You paste your own Cover Letter into another text box so that it can be represented as part of your Job Application as well. This letter should highlight applicable experience and training. (See “Resume Tips” for additional information.)
*Note – You are able to preview ALL the information that you will be sending to employers, so there are no surprises. You are in control of all your own information.

What is an “Industry Benchmark”?

Industry Benchmarks are common jobs, they are not real positions. They are a tool careerXact provides to improve your success rate with your own job leads.

For jobs that contain the careerXact logo (Industry Benchmarks), click ‘Apply’, then in the next step, you must add an email address for the company you wish us to send your careerXact Job Application TM to. Find companies that have positions similar to the benchmark and then add the email address for that company.

Use careerXact's Letter of Introduction to highlight your fit for the job. It will give you an advantage over other applicants. careerXact will email the Letter of Introduction, along with your cover letter and resume to the email address you enter for the employer that interests you.
